Completed 85 days of Research Internship in the field of Mechatronics and Automation under the guidance of Riku Heikkilä, Project Manager, Mechanical Engineering and Industrial System.

The project involved the development of the environmental control unit (air flow, temperature, clean room and humidity) and control logic for the TUT Microfactory concept. New modules were designed and manufactured, electrical and mechanical components were incorporated and controlled with the help of an Arduino micro controller.

Winter 2013
 

Completed a month of industrial training under the guidance of Mr. Biji Chacko, Senior Mechanical Engineer. The internship involved in plant training on Vertical Storage Tanks with respect to design and manufacture of API-650-Welded Tanks for Oil Storage.

 

 

Bhabha Atomic Research Center Trombay 

Summer 2013

 

Completed a month of Research internship under the guidance of Dr.K.Jayarajan, Outstanding Scientist, Department of Remote Handling and Robotics.

The topics included the following –

 

  • Analysis of Articulated Master Slave Manipulators - Analysing manipulator kinetics, generalizing manipulator arm motion in 2d space using MATLAB and formulating error involved in motion transmission from master to slave side.

 

  • Conceptualization of Mechanisms for Cleaning Glove Boxes – Mechanisms were proposed for the purpose of cleaning contaminated glove boxes. Various concepts were generated and their 3D CAD model were developed. 

 

Adacemic Projects

● Developed Hardware in Loop simulation of a XY plotter with image acquisition and machine vision capabilities using NI Elvis and Lab View under the guidance of Dr. K V Gangadharan, Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department, NITK Surathkal.

 

● Designed and build a Hand Gesture Based Locomotive BOT with Arduino - LabView interfacing, working under the guidance of Dr.Navin Karanth Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department, NITK Surathkal.

   

● Developed VibSIM , a Matlab GUI based Machine Dynamics and Vibration based learning application as a part of the course mini project under the guidance of Dr. K V Gangadharan, Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department, NITK Surathkal.

 

● Developed Matlab GUI based simulation and analysis of slider crank and four bar mechanisms as a part of the course mini project under the guidance of Dr. K V Gangadharan, Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department, NITK Surathkal.

 

● Seminar on Robotics toolkit for LabVIEW - presented a tutorial on how to use the robotics module and the simulation environment with LabVIEW. Developed an external joystick controlled virtual bot with capabilities to manoeuvre in a simulated maze environment.

 

● Major Project – Control and Actuation of Magnetorheological (MR) Fluids under the guidance of Dr.Hemanth Kumar, Asst. Professor (ongoing). Project aims to -

- Model and analyse MR Fluid and Dampers based on both the Modified Bouc Wen and Bingham Models  followed by the fabrication of Dampers and verification using experimental results.

 - Research the use of MR fluids in controlled actuations with force feedback.

 

 ● MIT Media Labs Design Innovation Workshop – Worked with various schools for the disabled in Gujarat to design and build a prototype of a cheap, mechanical prosthetic arm for double amputees which can be deployed in India.

● Recipient of “SPDC Scholarship” at NITK for the past 3 years of Bachelors.

 

● Student Tutor in Mathematics in NITK.

 

● Cultural Director of the Rotaract Club, NITK (Part of Rotary International).

 

● Director of the Annual College Charity Drama for the year 2015 and actively involved in raising money through annual charity plays for the past 3 years.

 

● Coordinator of the Ooperai project in Karnataka (part of the Ooperai community project Panama, South America) – Project aims to develop a sense of the environment and design among underprivileged and handicapped children and aims to imbibe the confidence to express oneself in the general public

.

● Executive member of the College Design Team including Design Committee for both its Technical and Cultural festivals and design head of Rotaract International newsletter ‘Whispering Winds’.
